Bread & Roses
We moved into our current bakery in Alnwick in April 2014 aiming to establish a production bakery to underpin everything we offer under the name of Bread and Roses [Northumberland] Limited. Bakery founder Andrew Smith left behind College lecturing to set up Bread and Roses and complete an MSc in Food Policy. He produced bread in a wood-fired oven on his patio to sell at Farmers’ Markets. The bakery has grown significantly, taking up all of the current Bread and Roses operations and supplies many high-quality outlets throughout Northumberland and up into Scotland too. We make authentic artisan bread, most of it being proper sourdough, leavened only with naturally cultivated wild yeasts.
